Back to the Future: The Intersection of Technology and the Restaurant IndustryDave Seebeck, VP & CIO, Consolidated Restaurants

We as a whole know the 1985 film 'Back to the Future'. Time travel is conceivable as long as you have a Flux Capacitor—the innovation concocted in 1955 by Doc Brown, played by Christopher Loyd in the film. The primary character Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox inadvertently makes a trip back to 1955 in the time machine designed by the Doc. Marty winds up stuck before and needs to persuade the Doc to assist him with returning to what's to come. It is a lot of like IT attempting to persuade Restaurant Operations about the advantages of actualizing innovation. It tends to be extremely troublesome from the outset, and it feels like you went through time before everybody is glad and the choice is at last made.

Since we have the Flux Capacitor how about we return to the convergence of innovation and the café business. To modify the space-time continuum bounce into my 1980's tempered steel DeLorean, fire up the 1.21-gigawatt atomic force plant and how about we return an outing to what's to come.

How about we see, I accept the primary stop is when the new century rolled over when the main drive-through eatery was made by an organization called Horn and Hardart. The eateries were called Automats, where orderlies would push nourishment through the rear of a bank of candy machines. Clients embedded coins and chose sandwiches, soups, courses, beverages, and treats.

"McDonald's was one of the first to present a touch cushion terminal that had catches for burgers, fries, and shakes"

Candy machine innovation converged with a cafeteria to create inexpensive food. Who might have thought so? Eatery innovation for the initial 75% of the twentieth century was constrained to process upgrades and kitchen hardware improvements. All bookkeeping, accounting, conveyance, satisfaction, was done physically for a decent piece of the century. Sales registers were essentially enormous manual calculators with a money cabinet. Mid-century, the primary present-day period PC was made in 1946, the Eniac PC. It utilized vacuum tubes, gauged 30 tons, took up 1800 square feet and it could perform 385 increase activities for each second. Entirely cool right? Your cell phone today can perform100 million.

The next stop is the year 1955 and Ray Kroc started the first of his McDonalds with the Speedee Service System. This framework streamlined work processes in the kitchen to mass-produce a restricted menu of burgers, fries, and shakes. The innovation was called Business Process Optimization (BPO) yet in those days they just called it large scale manufacturing. More than 300 billion sold and tallying, cutting edge cheap food was conceived It wasn't until the 1970's that a microchip-based POS was conceived. Furthermore, as you would anticipate McDonald's was one of the first to present it.

It was a touchpad terminal that had catches for burgers, fries, shakes, and so on. It could gather sums, figure expense, aggregate and print the check. All things considered, we simply arrived on the moon, created Velcro and Tang. Our innovation was extremely amazing. What else did we need? Quick forward forty years to today.

New developments in café innovation are happening at a confounding pace. POS frameworks are still basically a request passage gadget.

New developments in café innovation are happening at a confounding pace. POS frameworks are still basically a request passage gadget. A fundamental point in the café activity, where sums are gathered and arranges are dispersed a lot of like the previous models. Although the steady need to improve has driven us to Mobile Payment Systems, POS in the cloud, Handheld POS, POS on Tablet PCs, POS in Kiosk's, Tabletop POS, POS in an App, and POS in your Smartphone. Truly we at last made sense of how to more readily use those 100 flops. All things considered, when requesting nourishment on your cell phone there is no genuine need to perform enormous measures of counts. In any case, it's pleasant to realize you could on the off chance that you needed to.

POS is only one of the numerous innovations that are evolving. Others incorporate back-office frameworks, informal communication, wifi with geofencing, and business knowledge, just to give some examples. All upgraded by the presentation of quicker and still quicker web speeds. Additionally executing these new arrangements is getting simpler and simpler with the coming of the Software as a Service (SaaS) model. To the innovation beginner, it's as simple as downloading an application from the application store. The expression, "isn't there an application for that"? We know is rarely simple.

As technologists considering any new headways and enhancements to the innovation at our organizations we should all think about the human side of the condition. At the point when you settle on the choice to push ahead given something, new keep these progressions will influence the lives of your representatives and clients. Ask yourself these inquiries. It is safe to say that they are in an ideal situation with this innovation? Will it permit your representatives with more opportunities to spend on improving your business? Permit them additional time upgrading their associations with your clients. Permit them to invest more energy with their families. Since dissimilar to Doc Brown and Marty McFly time is the one thing we can never get back.
